Apple Picking in Ellijay: Best Orchards in the Apple Capital of Georgia

The outdoor fire pit at The Bear Necessity Cabin during a fall weekend in Ellijay, GA

Ellijay isn’t called the Apple Capital of Georgia for nothing. Come late summer and fall, the orchards just outside town fill with apple pickers, fresh cider, and the smell of fried pies. Here are the best orchards to visit.

B.J. Reece Orchards

A family favorite with apple picking, a country store, cider donuts, and seasonal activities for kids — about 14 miles from downtown.

R&A Orchards

Famous for its farm market, homemade fried pies, and fresh-pressed cider, R&A is a must-stop (about 10 miles).

Panorama Orchards & Farm Market

The closest of the bunch (about 6 miles), Panorama’s market is packed with apples, jams, cider, and local goods.

When to Go

Apple season runs roughly September through October. Time your trip with the Georgia Apple Festival, held in Ellijay each October, for crafts, food, and small-town fun.

Where to Stay

After a day in the orchards, unwind at The Bear Necessity Cabin — sleeps 6, private hot tub, and minutes from the apple houses. Book direct and skip the fees.
