Older dogs and short-legged breeds do beautifully on the gentler, well-graded paths along the water, where there is shade most of the day and easy places to cool off. Younger, high-energy dogs can handle the longer climbs into the Chattahoochee National Forest, where the payoff is a quiet overlook and almost no crowds midweek. Whatever you pick, leashes are the rule on public land here, and it is a rule worth following — black bears, wild turkeys, and the occasional armadillo all share these woods.
Pack for Mountain Conditions, Not City Walks

Many businesses in the area welcome leashed dogs on their patios and in outdoor spaces, though policies vary from one owner to the next, so it is always worth a quick call or a glance at the door before you settle in. Local etiquette is simple: leash on, waste bags in hand, and give other dogs plenty of room on narrow sidewalks.
Coming Home to the Cabin
